To All Omani Students,
We have good news for
all students especially for those who are studying in Canada. I would like to inform everyone that there
have been a couple changes to the scholarship rules and regulations.
First, after a long process of getting the approval, the
Authorities in Oman have finally agreed to pay Canadian students allowances in
Canadian dollars instead of US dollars.
The monthly allowances have also been increased to compensate for the
weaker US dollar and smaller conversion rate.
Since the allowances of Canadian students were much higher a few years
ago due to the stronger US dollar at that time, the MOHE has agreed to give
Canadian students allowances comparable to the allowances a long time ago. Please take note that this will be effective
very soon (most likely by May 1, 2005).
Please see attached table (attachment #1) for the new allowances and
attached letter of approval.
Second, with regards to article (30) of the Ministry
Decree on project allowance, all students (graduate and undergraduate) will now
be paid the allowance during their scholarships. The project allowance will be paid in 2 installments. The first installment will be made during
the first year of study and the second installment will be made during the last
year of study. This will be effective
very soon as well. Please see attached
article 30 for more information.
